After breakfast, we went for a hike to Darwin Falls. It felt good to be off the bikes and stretching our legs! This waterfall is an oasis up a desert canyon. One of those places that you would never find on your own! We then fired up the bikes and went exploring. We visited Ballarat Ghost town, then rode up Wildrose Canyon to the charcoal kilns. These kilns were built in 1876 to provide fuel to process silver/lead ore and are fascinating to see. We then rode to Aguereberry Point which overlooks Death Valley from the west side from an elevation of 6433 feet – looking down at Badwater at -282 ft – quite a long ways down! After a lunch stop at the Badwater Saloon, we headed into Furnace Creek for hot showers and cold beers before dinner. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony of our room at Furnace Creek Ranch, watching the sun turn the distant peaks orange and red. It was the perfect ending to another great day.
