The Death Valley Adventure tour started with meeting our clients at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas for introductions and a briefing about the tour. The next morning, our tour guide Aron introduced Earl and Jürgen to their bikes – Suzuki DRZ400s. Perfect for this adventure tour! Aron and the clients headed out from Vegas to immediately find a dirt road or two on their way to the famous Pioneer Saloon. This saloon was built in 1913 and still has the original bar and the tin walls. The famous screen legend, Clark Gable, waited for three days at the bar for word on his wife Carole Lombard. She was lost in a plane crash near Mount Potosi. You can still see the cigar holes that Mr. Gable burned into the bar while waiting.
We then headed to Sandy Valley Ranch for a BBQ lunch at this horse ranch. We visited the ranch animals and Earl took a turn at riding the bull. (A barrel bull!) The ride that afternoon was through beautiful wilderness areas passing near Clark Mountain and Kingston Peak and we visited an iron ore mine along the way.
That night we stayed in teepees at the spring fed greenery of China Ranch, a desert oasis and family owned date farm. Sitting back with a cold beer, watching the fabulous sunset just whetted our appetite for dinner cooked by our hostess, Cynthia. Afterwards, everyone sat outside by the campfire sharing stories and friendship. It was a great start to the trip.
